Actual screenshots of the 20 BJs observed by the proponents under the login account "andrealig"
Below are actual screen recordings of the BJs that were observed by the proponents in AfreecaTV. The proponents decided to just record the first 2-3 minutes of the hours-long livestream of each BJ, enough to get the overall essence in watching said Mukbang videos. They also chose the BJs that show the most prominent characteristics of the said categories that were identified: chef, challenger, weirdo, prince/princess, the relaxed eater and combinations of such. All videos were then uploaded to YouTube by the proponents of the study for easy access and viewing.
BJ MG is an example of a prince BJ. He wears clothes that are considered to be of high standards and flaunts it in a subtle way. He goes above and beyond to satisfy his viewers with the slurping and swallowing sounds he makes. Although he lacks the preparation for lighting and other technical effects, he makes up for it with his Adidas track suit and Ferrari computer seat. Prince BJs usually eat food that are bought from convenience stores to show their audience that they are relatable despite the lifestyle difference.
BJ Jenny and BJ Sarah are examples of princess Bjs. They showcase their great physique with clothes that accentuate their figure. They also put on make up and use various lightings for better complexion on screen. Being princesses however do not hinder them to finish the serving of meat, soup and seafood on their table. They are however conscious of their poise and their actions thus lesser slurping sounds are made.
BJ Mike and BJ Grace are examples of the "weirdo" BJs. The use of props and animation on to their broadcast maked the audience more attracted and tuned on. They started their broadcast with singing and cracking of jokes and proceeded in playing with the prop toy they brought out. Weirdo BJs usually get more balloons the more unusual their broadcast is.
BJ Daniel and Hannah are examples of challengers. Here the proponents of the study noticed that they filmed their journey on the way to the restaurant and showcased it's menu offerings. They then ordered food and eventually challenged each other to finish all of it.
BJ Nicole is an example of a relaxed eater because she does not do anything out of the ordinary. She takes the time to eat her food, drink liquids and talk to her audience. She described the food, taste, texture and judged the cooking very eloquently.
BJ Mark is another example of a weirdo BJ. He put together the trend of broadcasting yourself while eating and another unusual phenomenon which is Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR). He articulates very slowly making sure that every word he says has an exaggerated sound that tingles the sense of hearing and satisfies people with the ASMR fetish.
BJ John, Eugene and Frank are all examples of the chef BJ. They show their audience the appropriate amount of ingredients to put, what is best suited for one's palette and cook it themselves before eating. BJ John and Eugene can also be classified as a challenger because towards the 30-min mark of the stream, BJ John challenes BJ Eugene on who could finish all the sushi faster.
With these data gathered from AfreecaTV, the proponents grasp that one BJ can have many different styles of broadcasting. The end goal is to bring satisfaction to their audience and gain more traction to their accounts.
